The Ministry works on developing new, innovative concepts for sustainable mobility within the state. Additionally, the Ministry of Transport is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining transportation routes, such as roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.

Other key topics include protection from traffic noise, promoting pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and involving citizens in implementing infrastructure projects.

We want to move people—by taking their needs into account without losing sight of nature. For nothing moves people more than tailored mobility solutions in a healthy and intact environment.

Structure of the Ministry of Transport

The Ministry’s roughly 400 employees are divided across five departments, each focused on different areas of transport policy. Each department is further divided into specialized divisions.

The departments are:

  • Department 1: Administration
  • Department 2: Road Traffic & Road Infrastructure
  • Department 3: Public Transport
  • Department 4: Sustainable Mobility
  • Department 5: Mobility Hub, Connected and Digital Mobility

Collaboration with Other Authorities

The Ministry fulfills its responsibilities in close cooperation with other ministries and authorities, particularly with the regional administrative bodies, known as Regierungspräsidien. These are responsible, among other tasks, for implementing construction and maintenance projects for federal highways under the Ministry’s guidelines. Together with the Public Transport Authority of Baden-Württemberg (NVBW), the Ministry oversees the organization and marketing of regional rail transport.
