Doctor Christian Schneider

Doctor Christian Schneider has been Director-General at the Ministry of Transport since 2026.

Doctor Christian Schneider can look back on a versatile career in the judiciary and state politics. He was born on 5 March 1964 in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

Academic Education and Doctorate

He completed his degree in law at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. After passing the first state examination in law in 1989, he began his legal clerkship (Referendariat) at the Higher Regional Court of Nuremberg. In 1992, he passed his second state examination in law.

This was followed by a position as a research assistant at the Friedrich-Alexander University and a doctorate in criminal law.

Career in State Administration and Politics

After completing his doctorate, Christian Schneider worked as a lawyer within the financial administration in Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. He briefly served as a public prosecutor before moving to his new home of Baden-Württemberg in 2000.

In the southwest, he also worked in the financial administration, but was seconded to the State Parliament (Landtag) of Baden-Württemberg in 2002 as a parliamentary advisor to the CDU parliamentary group.

After 2005, he held positions as Personal Assistant to the State Secretary for Finance, Head of Office for the Plenipotentiary at the State Representation in Berlin, and Head of Office to the Minister for the State Ministry, Europe and Federal Affairs at the State Ministry.

From 2010, Schneider spent six years as Vice-President of the Regional Government, initially at the Stuttgart Regional Government Office and finally in Tübingen. Following this, he became Managing Director of the CDU parliamentary group in the State Parliament.

Christian Schneider has been a Director-General since 2021 – initially at the newly established Ministry for Regional

Development and Housing. In May 2026, he moved to the Ministry of Transport in the same role.
Christian Schneider has two children and lives in Waldenbuch.
